Cost Of Care

The Cost of Live-in Care

We will always make sure that you are fully aware of the cost for Live-in care before we start. We will undertake an assessment of needs which will determine how much we charge. There are no hidden costs nor do we charge for assessments. You will have a Care Manager looking after you who will review your care regularly to make sure that you are getting the best possible service. There are no additional charges for visits from our Directors or from our Care Managers.
We calculate our costs on a daily basis and our fees range between £150.00 per day and £170 per day. On top of this, we charge up to a maximum of £60 travel costs for the return journey of the carer. On all public holidays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day the charge is double. There is no VAT to be added.
We will happily provide care for couples. Live-in care is a fantastic solution for couples who want to stay at home together. The cost for Live-in care for couples compares favourably to that of a residential care home, where the cost for couples would be double. We charge just a nominal extra amount for couples to cover additional housekeeping and cooking duties.

Our live-in carer will take a 2-hour break each day at a time that suits you. If you are unable to be at home alone we can arrange for an hourly carer to stay with you and this will be charged at our hourly rates.

The Cost of Hourly Care

During week days the hourly charge is £21.50 The cost of care at the weekend is £25.00 per hour. If you need care on a bank holiday the charge is £43.00 per hour.
The minimum charge per visit is £21.50 or the equivalent of a 1-hour care visit.
If you require a carer to stay overnight with you who sleeps in your home the cost is £125.00 on Monday to Thursday and then £143.00 on Friday to Sunday nights. On a bank holiday the cost is £250.00.
Bank holiday rates will be charged for sleeper duties starting or finishing on a Bank Holiday.
There are some additional charges if the carer is disturbed during the night and these can be explained when we talk to you.
Please get in touch with one of our Directors or a Care Manager if you would like to discuss any aspect of providing care; we are happy to help.

Paying for your care

If you are looking for advice about how to pay for your care, take a look at the Paying for Care website, a non-profit company that can give advice about funding your care:

"As one of the families who have the benefit of your wonderful carers, I would like to say thank you for everything this year. Your carers are very special people and have made our lives much easier. With special mention to Debbie, Britt and Kadi, without whom our family would be in chaos. Thank you."
"I would like to say how very kind and caring your staff are towards my mother, their care is wonderful and she is very fond of both of them. It is a worry for me living 70 miles away but I know she is in good hands."
"We have used Universal Care for almost three years for help with care for my disabled son. The staff are all pleasant and helpful and the office staff do all they can to accommodate our needs. They even send clients a small gift and card at Christmas! They make us feel valued."
"I would like to thank Universal Care for all the help they have given me, first in looking after my husband, and then more recently over the last three months for me. With their professional, friendly and caring attention, I now feel strong enough to manage on my own. I would not hesitate in recommending Universal Care to anyone who is looking for care for a loved one."
"They were extraordinarily professional, caring and efficient, and each of them displayed a wonderful humanity and bond with my father that made his final years peaceful, comfortable, and even blissful. When it came to his passing he was able to do so in his own bed at home in a quiet dignified and relaxed manner."
"I am very pleased with the high standard of care my husband receives. My husband has dementia and is in a wheelchair. It is fair to say that he is difficult, especially for me! Having the carers has made a huge difference to my capacity to cope and survive."
"We were extremely pleased with the thoughtful care and attention shown over the 3 days we required help. She enjoyed having the carer to look after her and we would not hesitate to call on Universal Care again for their services."
"We have been very satisfied and happy with the service. Our current carer is a treasure and we are hoping to see a great deal of her in future."
"I found the response from the office team enthusiastic, coherent and wanting to help immediately. The visit for consultation at my home was very helpful and professional, and a carer was put in place for me on the date and the hour I requested."
